Studied violin at the Conservatory “Pietro Mascagni” in Livorno. He graduated in Arts, Music and Theatre at the Faculty of Philosophy and Philology of the University of Bologna. He received his Master's degree in Arts Management at the Catholic University of Milan. From 2001 to 2010 Giuseppe Acquaviva is appointed artistic administrator of Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago. Since 2011, he is the Artistic Director of Genoa’s Carlo Felice Theatre Foundation. 

His debut as a conductor takes place in 2006 at Amsterdam in a concert with the Puccini Festival orchestra and artists, followed by opera galas at Sha Ping Theatre of Chonquing and at the Lyceum Theatre of Shanghai (China) with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. In may 2007 he conducts the “Maratona Pucciniana” at Tokyo and is invited the year after to conduct the performance of “Le donne di Puccini” (Puccini heroines). For the Puccini Festival he conducts concert highlights from Madama Butterfly and the Puccini Gala at Amsterdam (2007/2008) and numerous concerts to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Giacomo Puccini with the Puccini Festival orchestra. In june 2009 he is invited to conduct “Messa a 4 voci miste” by Giacomo Puccini at the “Festival di Musica sacra” (sacred music) at Monte Carlo (Monaco) In 2008 in the opening season of the Grand Theatre NCPA of Peking, he debuts in a new production of Turandot with Giovanna Casolla and Nicola Martinucci and the Shanghai Opera Orchestra and Chorus, directed by Chen Xinji, set design by Gao Guangjian and performing the world premier of Hao Weiya’s finale of the opera. For the 54th Festival Puccini he conducts Turandot, directed by Maurizio Scaparro, set design by Ezio Frigerio and costume design by Franca Squarciapino.

He conducts Puccini’s La Bohème at the 55th Festival Puccini, directed by Maurizio Scaparro, set and costume design by Michel Folon, and Piotr Ilic Tchaikowsky’s Swan Lake with the Moscow Ballet. He debuts at the Teatro Donizetti of Bergamo conducting Piotr Ilic Tchaikowsky’s Romeo and Juliet with the Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana (Italian Philharmonic Orchestra), the choreography is by Giorgio Madia with the Balletto di Milano, the production is restaged at the Teatro Europa of Bologna and the Teatro Goldoni of Livorno.

In April he conducts an Opera Gala at Belgrad with the Theatre Madlenianum orchestra organized by the Pavarotti Foundation. In november 2010 he debuts at the Teatro Verdi of Trieste again with Piotr Ilic Tchaikowsky’s Romeo and Juliet with the theatre's orchestra, choreography by Giorgio Madia and the Balletto di Milano. He debuts in december 2011 at the Teatro Comunale of Bologna conducting the theatre’s orchestra in a new ballet production of Cinderella with music by Rossini, choreography by Giorgio Madia and the Balletto di Milano, restaged in 2012 at the Teatro Donizetti of Bergamo and Teatro Coccia of Novara. In 2012 he conducts Rigoletto production for the Teatro Coccia of Novara and the Teatro Verdi of Pisa, with the direction, set and costume design by Ivan Stefanutti. In 2012 he conducts the Teatro Reggio of Turin’s historical production of La Bohème signed by Eugenio Guglielminetti at the Teatro Coccia of Novara. In 2015 he conducts La Bohème at the Ekaterinburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre and at the Carlo Felice opera House of Genova. In 2016 he conducts Aida at the “Split Summer Festival”, a new production of Gianni Schicchi in Belgrad Opera House and Turandot at Tienjin and Harbin Opera House (China). In 2017 he conducts La Bohème and Rigoletto at Kazakh State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after Abay in Almaty and Turandot at the Carlo Felice opera House of Genova.

Since 2013, he has been the Guest Conductor at the Astana Opera House, where he conducted the premiere of S. Prokofiev’s ballet Romeo and Juliet and the operas La Bohème, Tosca, Madama Butterfly by G. Puccini.

He has been a jury member of numerous competitions including “Sanremo lirica”, “Concorso AsLiCo”, “Verdi Competition” and “Bellini Competition” in Peking, “Concorso Illica” in Castell’Arquato, “International Cello Competition N. Knushevitsky” in Saratov, 54° Paganini Award in Genova, Placido Domingo’s Operalia (2017).
