2018 10 04 galeano salas headshot c jake hamiltonGaleano SalasPraised for his romantic Italianate sound, Mexican-American tenor Galeano Salas has begun his first season as an ensemble member of the Bayerische Staatsoper. Most notably this season Galeano will be reprising the role of Rinuccio in Puccini's Il trittico following a last minute jump-in in last season's premiere Livestream performance, conducted by maestro Kirill Petrenko.

Mr. Salas has garnered a number of awards, most recently winning the Grand Prix and Audience Choice Awards at the III Éva Marton International Singing Competition. He also received top prizes at the Stella Maris International Voice Competition, the 28ème Concours de Chant de Marmande, the VI Concurso Internacional de Canto, Alfredo Kraus, and the Top Prize of the 2016 Gerda Lissner
Foundation International Voice Competition, among others.

In his inaugural season at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Mr. Salas bowed as Gastone in La traviata with Placido Domingo, Diana Damrau and Charles Castronovo. This season he has performed in the new production of Otello as Roderigo alongside Jonas Kaufmann, Gerald Finley and Anja Harteros. Other roles at the Staatsoper include Lord Arturo Bucklaw in Lucia di Lammermoor and Pong in Turandot. Upcoming engagements include role debuts with Theatre du Capitole de Toulouse, the Hungarian State Opera and Bayerische Staatsoper.

Previous engagement inlude singing the Magician in The Consul, Ruprecht in Der Zerbrochene Krug, Der Offizier in Der Diktator at the Bayerische Staatsoper. Outside of Munich, Galeano performed the Italian Singer in Richard Strauss' Capriccio with the Santa Fe Opera, Il Duca di Mantua in Verdi's Rigoletto, Rodolfo in La bohème, Alfredo in La traviata, Mario Ruoppolo in Il Postino, Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Vaudemont in Iolanta and Tebaldo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi. Oratorio works performed include Haydn's Stabat Mater, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, the Mozart Requiem, and Handel's Messiah.

Mr. Salas holds degrees from the University of Houston, Yale University, and the Academy of Vocal Arts. He also completed two years as a member of the Bayerische Staatsoper Opernstudio.
