Bass singer Máté Szécsi was born in Budapest. Since 1998 he has been an artist at the Hungarian State Opera House.
His first roles came in Ligeti''s Le Grand Macabre, Mozart''s Magic Flute, Verdi''s Otello and Rigoletto and Puccini''s Manon. He frequently performs in contemporary works, such as Eötvös''s Three Sisters, but can also be seen in rarities (Ciro Pinsutti: Matteo Corvino) and early music productions (Gluck: Orfeo). In the 2002/2003 season he is performing as Rocco from Beethoven''s Fidelio, and has also sung the bass from Mozart''s Requiem.
