homonay zsolt webZsolt Homonnay Zsolt Homonnay was born in 1971 in Kaposvár, Hungary and by 1990 he had begun his interest in the theatre at the Zalaegerszeg studios of the Sandor Hevesi Theatre. In the meantime, he was admitted into the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest, where he continued his studies in the operetta-musical faculty until his graduation in 1997. During his school years, he played in several musicals, among others Miss Saigon and West Side Story. Right after university, he was invited to perform in several theatres in Hungary, among them Pécs and Szolnok. In 1999, he procured the key role of Che Guevara in the tour of the world-famous musical Evita and then also interpreted Jesus in An-drew Lloyd Webber''s rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar.

 

In 2000, at the Budapest Spring Festival – where metropolitan and rural theatre directors presided- he was awarded the special prize of “Best Musical Actor"". In the same year, he was invited to Berlin to play the roles of Phoebus and Quasimodo in the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

He regained the Hungarian stages in 2002, since then the public has been watching him at the Operetta Theatre of Budapest, the Madách Theatre of Budapest and also in several other Hungarian theatres. He has played in such successful musical productions as Anna Karenina, The Phantom of the Opera, Romeo and Juliet and Beauty and the Beast. In 2009, he got the challenging role of Death in Elisabeth, the celebrated musical about the life of Sisi, the Empress of Austria his interpretation received a warm welcome from theatre critics. Since then he has been regularly playing in the most popular productions at the Operetta Theatre in Budapest. He is interpreting a wide range of various roles from Jean Valjean in Les Misérables to Maxim de Winter in Rebecca and the Koltay Calvary Master in the opera Viktoria.

Since 2010, he has regularly joined tours in German speaking countries with the widely renowned Disney production, Beauty and the Beast.

In the 2011/2012 season, Mr. Homonnay became the Best Musical Artist of the Year. Besides his acting career, he is also a successful singer. In 2005, together with the opera singer Péter Balczó and the actor Sándor Nagy, he founded the group Adagio. The unique vocal skills of its members soon gained public favour. Among their repertoire are popular Hungarian and international song hits sung in acappello style accompanied by orchestra. Their graceful and elegant crossover style is unique to the Hungarian pop music industry. They have released four albums  three went platinum and one gold. They enjoyed huge success with their concert DVD Touch which also went platinum. Besides the singing group, he shares concerts with his wife, the actress Lilla Polyák. Up to now, they have published two albums together. Both of Us, published in 2009, soon became a golden album, and then their second record, Two Hearts was released in 2010.

Zsolt Homonnay is not only an actor and singer, but also works as a lyric writer and translator. His musical sensitivity lends itself to lyrical writing and translation. He was the author of several Hungarian top hits and the translator of numerous international songs. His excellent lyrics are also part of the concert repertoire of the group Adagio.
