György Hanczár a young Hungarian tenor and recent Grand-Prix winner at the prestigious József Simándy Vocal Competition 2016, György Hanczár, was born in 1988 in Békescsaba. After having started his carreer as musical and operetta singer/performer, he made his operatic debut as Tamino in W.A. Mozart’s Zauberflöte at the Szeged National Theater, Hungary (stage director: Róbert Alföldi) in 2015 and gained huge success with this role. Furthermore at the same place he debuted Nemorino in G. Donizetti’s L’Elisir D’Amore in 2015. Current and future engagements include the title part in B. Britten’s Albert Herring in Szeged, a role in G. Liegeti’s Le Grand Macabre (including a CD recording) at the Hungarian State Opera Budapest, Gomatz in W.A. Mozart’s Zaide and Nemorino in Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore at German Theater Freiburg among others.
