choreographer
Freelance artist, choreographer, dance artist.
She earned her degree as a choreographer at the Hungarian Dance Academy. As a freelance artist, she worked on her own projects with changing teams, and was often invited by professional companies and theatres to contribute to their work. She founded the Éva Duda Dance Company in 2009 together with Péter Kunert composer and the dance artists of its first piece entitled Lunatika. Duda’s works follow the principles of physical dance and physical theatre.
Her choreographies are characterized by dynamic and unexpected changes connecting total stillness with extremely energetic, fast and complicated motives. Focusing on physicality, she blends the different elements of contemporary and modern techniques, often using street dances, authentic folkdances or martial arts as sources of inspiration.
Duda’s performances always roll around the human experience; she is most interested in exploring the laws of internal processes, the power relations and emotional states of closed communities. Diversity and innovation are her keywords; her pieces are often labeled lyrical, sensual and intimate.
Besides managing her own company, she is regularly invited to work in musical theatre productions ranging from operas through musicals to movement theatre genres. She regularly works with stage directors Gábor Miklós Kerényi and Enikő Eszenyi, and her assignments include choreographing the monumental performances of Szeged Open Air Festival, where she made more than 10 productions.
She was awarded the Lábán Rudolf Award, the Imre Zoltán Prize and the Harangozó Gyula Prize.
