In 2016 Bartók Plus Opera Festival holds its Opera Composition Competition again, at the same time renews its tradition.
„…Composers of all countries! Create the radically new opera genre that combines the popularity of musicals with the highest aesthetic aspirations of classical music, thus reviving the spirit of Mozart, Verdi and Puccini!...”
Manifesto of Bartók Plus Opera Festival (excerpt)
The competition will be organized jointly by Bartók Plus Opera Festival and Franz Liszt Academy of Music, and will be held in the last quarter of 2016 in Budapest. The deadline of submitting the competition works is 22 August 2016.
Out of the competition works three will be chosen by the Jury for the finals. These pieces will be performed by the students of the Academy of Music on stage and with piano accompaniment as part of their Opera exam (also taking the exam schedule of the University into account). After the performances the Jury will make its decision about the winner work, which will be staged with orchestra accompaniment at Bartók Plus Opera Festival of the following year.
The prize for the three works getting into the finals is 1500 Euros each, the first prize is 4000 Euros.
You will soon get more information about the competition on our website, and you will also find the Call for submission, the Competition regulation and the Application form here.
