Passion is guaranteed when it comes to Viktoria Vizin, the internationally well-acclaimed mezzo-soprano whose name is often seen in the world''s biggest houses such as the Metropolitan Opera or Covent Garden.
Ms. Vizin started an exciting dramatic mezzo-soprano repertory in her past two seasons. This included Charlotte in Werther (Scottish Opera debut 2013), The Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos (Budapest 2013), Phedre in Rameau''s Hypolite et Aricie (Budapest 2013) and the Wagner Ring Cycle at the Luzerne Festival conducted by Jonathan Nott (2013).
The Hungarian mezzo-soprano was born in Mosonmagyaróvár where she started to play the piano at the age of six, and later - after winning several singing competitions at school - she continued her singing studies with Jenő Kálmán Horváth in the Secondary School of Music in Győr. She studied opera singing with Zsolt Bende and Zsuzsanna Eőry at Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music between 1987 and 1993, and immediately after graduation she joined the company of the Hungarian State Opera House. She won first prize in the lied and oratorio category in the Karlovy Vary Singing Competition in 1989, and third prize in the Singing Competition in Rome in 1997.
